About madelaine
The inspiration for my art and quilts comes from my many travels and especially my time living in Africa and Asia. I enjoy using native fabrics particularly Thai silks, Indonesian batiks and African kangas.
My work encompasses art, religion and the environment as decorative tactile quilts. I enjoy exhibiting my pieces and passing on my knowledge wherever and whenever possible. A particular honour was being chosen on two occasions to submit pieces for the Charles Henry Foyle exhibition at the Redditch Needle Museum.
Since completing my Diploma at East Berkshire College I have joined the members of Diversity.

EDGE
The inspiration for the design of these hangings and the theme ‘Edge’ came from travels and expatriate life in Africa. Creating lines of machine stitching to pucker the shimmering silk background is used to depict an impression of stunning sandy coastlines, vast expanses of undulating surfaces, magnificent watercourses and an amazing colourful vista.
Working intricate pieces of silk, the small but poignant centres of each hanging represent features of this vast continent.
